2025 Ontario Junior Chess Championship will be held on April 4-5. Details to follow.
2025 Ontario Open Chess Championship
The championship will take place on Saturday May 17 – Monday May 19, 2025 at Best Western 19 Holiday Dr., Brantford, ON.
Format and Time Controls:
6 Round Swiss
90 minutes + 30 second bonus
Byes:
Half point byes must be requested before the previous round has started
Maximum two, half point byes in rounds 1 – 4 only
Sections:
2000 and Above (FIDE and CFC rated)
1600 – 1999 (FIDE and CFC rated)
1200 – 1599 (CFC rated only)
U1200 and unrated (CFC rated only)

GM / WGM Free Entry
IM / WIM 50% discount of relevant fee at time of entry
Early: $100 before January 1, 2025
Regular: $110 January 1 – April 20, 2025
Late: $120 April 21 – May 15, 2025
Onsite: $130 After May 15, 2025, Cash Only (may receive a round one bye)
Play Up Fee:
$20 must be with in 100 points of next section up

Sections: U8 Open, U8 Girls, U10 Open, U10 Girls, U12 Open, U12 Girls, U14 Open, U14 Girls, U16 Open, U16 Girls, U18 Open, U18 Girls – Sections may be combined, if required.
Qualification: Players with a score of at least 50% will be qualified to compete in the Canadian Youth Chess Championships.
Prizes: The top three (3) finishers in each section shall be awarded medals
Bursaries: Section winners receive a $300 bursary. If they don’t play in the CYCC the bursary is offered to the next person in the final standings.
Time Control: G/45 min + 30 sec increment

Early Bird (prior to May 25): $120
Late (after May 25): $130
Payment Method: By eTransfer to torontochesscentre@gmail.com with the player’s full name mentioned as a note. Deadline: May 30, 2024, 11:59 p.m. No cash on-site.
Refunds: $120 back if you notify us by May 20, 11:59 p.m., $60 if you notify us by May 25, 11:59 p.m. No refund after.
CFC Membership: Players must obtain a valid CFC ID by no later than May 30, 2024

An official event of the Ontario Chess Association and an official qualifier event for the Canadian Youth Chess Championships
Dates: April 15-16, 2023

Type: Regular Swiss or Round Robin, depending on section size. Sections may be combined, if required.

Prizes: A bursary to the winner of each section for attendance at the Canadian Youth Chess Championships. Entry fee to the CYCC guaranteed upon registration (paid directly to the CYCC organizers) and, depending on OCYCC entries, accommodations at the CYCC partially or fully paid. If the winner of any given section fails to attend the CYCC, his or her bursary shall be offered to the highest-placed finisher in such section who does attend the CYCC.
Players with a score of at least 50% will be qualified to compete in the Canadian Youth Chess Championships.

Entry fee: $115/player, paid no later than April 7, 2023; a current membership with the Chess Federation of Canada must also be purchased no later than April 7, 2023; no entries will be accepted after April 7, 2023
Free entry for NMs, FMs, IMs, or GMs. Must be Ontario residents and meet age eligibility requirements.
